Humanity has fought endless wars – for power, for ego, for hatred.

We walked on the moon.
We landed our machines on Mars.
We sent our probes beyond our galaxy… and yet…

Here we are.. Still fighting.

Wars across the planet
Wars between the countries
And wars within ourselves.

A war that no one talks about.
A war that follows us from the moment we wake up… to the moment we try to sleep.

The struggle to find rest,
The struggle to find peace,
The struggle to quiet the mind.

Relatable? It was for him too.

For eight months, he didn’t take a day off.
Not for rest. Not for joy. Not even for himself.

There was always a reason to postpone it.

After this deadline.
After this month.
After things settle down.

But things never settled. Work kept growing.
Responsibilities at home kept growing. Expectations kept growing.

And somewhere in between… his patience kept shrinking.

Every day, he felt irritated. Tired. Drained.
But who do you talk to when everyone around you is rowing the same boat?

Friends? Busy.
Family? Busy.
Colleagues? Even busier.

So he kept going.

One day, he had to take a detour to refuel. For the car… or maybe for himself. Probably both.

An old man walked up to clean the windshield and greeted him with a smile. He nodded back politely.

The old man asked, “How are you doing?”

Such a small question, but such a dangerous question.

He was ready with the default answer: “All good.”

But the words stopped midway. Instead, he said quietly, “Just okay… life passing by.”

The old man smiled gently and replied, “Don’t worry, child. Everything will work out.”

And somehow… something inside him loosened.
The old man didn’t just wipe the dust off the windshield. He wiped the fog off his mind.

As humans, we live between two kinds of fear.

One comes from the past — anger, regret, grief, resentment.
The other comes from the future — anxiety, stress, insecurity.

We replay old conversations. We imagine future disasters.
And somewhere in between, we forget to live the present.

But that simple question — How are you? — broke the routine of his mind.
It pulled him into the present moment like a sudden jolt.

Sometimes life gives us these breaks gently. Sometimes it forces them.
Like detouring for fuel when you didn’t plan to stop.

Think about the last real break you took. Not a weekend spent worrying. Not a holiday spent checking emails.

A real break.

Remember how it reset something inside you?

In many ways, we are like a pen. And time is the ink.

As long as there is ink, we keep writing our story.
But imagine a pen that keeps worrying about:

  • the words it misspelled,
  • the lines it crossed out,
  • The sentence it must write next perfectly.

That pen would never enjoy the feeling of ink flowing right now.

It would miss the texture of the paper.
The warmth of the hand holding it.
The beauty of the moment it is writing.

We do the same with life.

Society tells us this struggle is normal.

Showing up every day? Normal.
Holding things together? Normal.
Being exhausted? Normal.

Nothing special. And maybe that’s why we need strangers sometimes.
Unexpected superheroes in ordinary clothes.

  • The man who holds the door.
  • The woman who greets you every morning.
  • The stranger who helps you park on a chaotic day.

We keep searching for support inside our inner circle, forgetting that life quietly sends help from outside it too. Because even when people we love get busy… life doesn’t abandon us. It simply sends different people.

Maybe the universe removes familiar support sometimes, only to make space for unexpected kindness.

And all we need to do… is notice it.
Accept it. Appreciate it.

Because there will be days when strangers understand your silence better than people who know your story.

And on those days, a simple question — “How are you?” can feel like someone refueling your soul.
