Hi reader,
Hope you are doing well. Lately, I have been so quiet and low in blog posts, that asking if you read the last one when I myself don’t remember when and what I wrote, makes completely no sense at all. I can’t assure you that I will be more active (which I always say and try to be), but certainly, I will not stop writing.
I said I will not stop writing, this is my will, which I have chosen, and something we all have in common, our free will. I am writing this blog, this is my free will, and you are reading it, it is your free will. And many are not reading, which is their free will. You may have not opted to read, but you are. Some have opted not to read, though they can. This is what we have special, our free will, to do or not to do something. Few people keep traveling and exploring the world, whenever they get the time, and the others keep watching them on Instagram or explore the world on YouTube, while simply being comfortable on their couch or bed. Different people with a different will. This will, we always had but did we realize ever?
How I realized and felt to write about it was, while reading “Have a little Faith” by Mitch Albom, where Mitch while talking to Reb, discussed free will, how special it is, and what it can do. It is really a very beautiful story and would recommend reading this book (especially if going through a rough phase). How contrasting the results can be based on our free will, you can just imagine that the same fire that can keep the room warm, can just burn the whole forest, or the same water that can help in farming can simply drain the whole farm. Just based on our free will!
Whatever appliance or gadget you are using right now for your leisure, was once a dream of someone backed by his free will, to make that dream come true. The clothes you are wearing, the chair you are seated on or the couch, the light illuminating the room, the electricity, the internet, this blogging platform so the thoughts can reach people across the globe bridging the boundaries, each and everything, was just an idea once, and someone who had that will, to transform this idea into reality, no matter how tough it would be, this is how the world we see has transformed so much. There is this very popular proverb, and absolutely rightly said:
“To him that will, ways are not wanting!” or “When there is a will, there is a way!”
George Herbert
However, this is just the goodwill we have talked about, and we all know, there is always a counterpart, the analogy. Here as well, our will is free, and it just depends on us how we make the choices, it can be both good and bad. Just as one goodwill can transform the world into a better place, the ill will can transform the world into a miserable place. It is just the ill-will of people, that we still have racism; rages based on religion, caste, colour, creed; terrorism; hate spread across the communities or nations; poverty; wars; crimes; man-made disasters, and whatnot. Just because, of the ill-will of a few people. A very simple yet powerful thing ‘will’ can result in such drastic differences.
Well, we have just talked about the good-ill and the ill-will, but there’s another will, a no-will. Yes, my proud procrastinators, you got it damn right, this is for you. You have the resources, you have the idea, but what you don’t have is a will. A will to back your idea and use the resources to turn that idea into reality. I have friends who always say they want to write and flush out their thoughts and ideas, but what they do is, Kal Karte hai! (will do it tomorrow). And then the next day, the story remains the same. Just imagine, how many great ideas have never come into reality, just because of someone’s no-will. How transformed our world would have been, but someone procrastinated. Interestingly, if everyone had no will, we would have still been in caves.
I talked about pretty big will’s, but it doesn’t matter every will has to transform the world, or every will has to be that big. Even the smaller ones can bring the change, at least to the person’s life. I have a friend, who has a will to be involved in something other than work. She has tried yoga, travel, gym, and now dance classes. A small will to be involved in some physical activity other than work brings a lot of change in the life. Isn’t it? The simple disciplined acts we can find everywhere. In the local parks, where people go for a walk in the morning or evening, while few others sleeping, is also just a simple will.
For the future generations, before I tell you, this is to the ones who have just landed here in this blog, without reading the complete text, your will is altered to find the shortcuts, that may help in a short time but all the best for the long-runs.
A will is not just some wish or desire, it is the driving force to make that wish or desire a reality. Stronger the will, better the results, and vice-versa. And if no will, so will be the results, empty! When Martin Luther King Jr. said, I have a dream…, he had the will the sow the seed of change among the people. And the day, when you woke up early in the morning for that trip, you also had that strong will. The same will, now wonder if you put that same strong will behind your dream, what could happen! Just imagine!
Take care of yourself, see you in the next one!
Cheers,
Navneet
