Hey reader,

There are times when you have things happening in your life, that you want to share with someone or some thoughts that you wish to share with someone, or you have a cyclone of ideas, imagination and understanding about various aspects of life that you wish to pen down somewhere and share with someone. Though, in most of these situations, there is some part of our introvert behaviour that either pulls us back or we start thinking of what other people will think about my thoughts. It’s crazy, isn’t it? But that’s how life is! This blog has always been my go-to place to talk about things when I am in a similar kind of situation to talk. And as I have also done in the past, I am elated to share that one of my dearest friends is going to talk about something very simple yet very important part of life, Communication, on understandingLife Decoded! So, without taking much of the time, I pass the baton to Akshay.

Hi Reader,

Let me introduce myself, I am Akshay here. I am writing here as a guest author on this wonderful topic that is about two-way communication.

Communication is originated from the Latin word “Communicare”(to share).

Since initially it was originated for sharing purpose like the idea, writing or by using some other platforms. In the pre-covid era, we were communicating using three mediums involving our senses which are in person, using audio calls, or virtually via the internet.

Here I am going a bit further in the human brain and evolution to explain why it is important to meet or have an audio call instead of Virtual calls (like Video calls or Text).

In terms of senses, our Olfactory senses (sense of smell) is the most primitive sense and has direct access to our brain and its memory. That’s why you get the imagination of your favourite dish being prepared just by the smell which is not recalled by listening to that dish. Thus, believe it or not, Axe effect works though not as much as described in those advertisements.

Next comes our hearing i.e. Auditory Senses. Ears evolve from fish gills, so essentially it was used as a breathing purpose before Evolution. It gives you balance and ability to listen to those beautiful art pieces of Music. Ever Imagined why music acts as a stress killer, cause every part of the brain is getting relaxed. Now coming back to the topic, the Audio Receptors tries to make an image about the things that we are receiving. Essentially our brain is processing the signals and etching a memory if your emotions are involved. Those etched memory part will be cherished which is essential for having a deep impacting conversation.

Now turning to the visual media, the Internet’s favourite love child, “Instant Messenger”. It is known with a various implementation like Facebook’s Messenger, Facebook’s WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook’s Instagram, Google’s Meet, Microsoft’s Skype/Teams and many more (mention those in comments if you can).

Watson: What happen to landline?

Sherlock: Eh, I prefer to text.

See here why the text is being preferred over to call, there is a subtle reason behind it. Sherlock doesn’t want to engage effectively with the person and wants the things that should be done from his end to be over without getting his emotion attached.

Modern Day IM’s have reduced our conversation to that level that we just pass emoji and memes but forget that human touch that we need in our pampering or low moments of our life. Those texts are a boisterous way of engaging your emotions with the other person because after all, we all are emotional whether we believe it or not. IM’s takes away that emotion because it’s not for active engagement. Telegram app is one unique app which serves its name aptly. Telegram(or Telegraph) was used to send an emergency message to the dear people from the sea in an encrypted language which is decrypted by the operator and then delivered to the customer. This is precisely how the Telegram App works and IM’s should work.

Let’s come to the feelings that are attached to IM’s. How delighted you feel when someone congratulated you in person, via call vs over the text. That’s the value that is associated with the textual medium. People misinterpret and overthink a text more than that of a call. Circle of pinging friends are increasing and ringing friends are decreasing day by day.

In the end I would just say,

Happiness is getting a long phone calls from your loved one about nothing.

Wow, isn’t it? Especially the closing quote! Just after reading the blog, I text him that this article is very beautiful, and the most beautiful part is the last quote. This is because, we both have a lot of such shared moments, and pretty sure that you also have it with someone in your life, so don’t forget to share this with them and rejoice the sweet moments and the beautiful bond of communication that exists between you two.

Wish the best for you and your family! Stay blessed. Cheers!
